Kyoko Takemura (b.1992) is a Japanese multidisciplinary artist mainly working in photography and animation. Takemura’s work shines a light on the hidden truths in objects, searching beyond their common functions for perspectives that remain unknown or ignored by a public audience.

Guided by an interest in the precarious nature of survival, her practice encourages the audience to reflect on what it means to be human, and the consequences of man’s inventions. Her subjects explore the universal issues shared beyond language barriers or ethnic classifications.

She is a Central Saint Martins BA Graphic Design graduate.
She lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

One of her food-focused project is Canned, a photographic series to reveal the unnatural nature of canned food. This project set out to discuss hidden and ignored truths in everyday life. The foodstuffs were taken from tins, solidified and photographed. Especially foods like meat and fish which should organically go bad in a few days to a week. However when processed and canned, they can last years.
